GORAN BOJČEVSKI & BALKAN NUEVO

GORAN BOJČEVSKI, born 26 December 1982 in Bitola, Macedonia, completed his primary and secondary education in Bitola. During this time, he was a multiple winner of national clarinet competitions. As a secondary school pupil, he perfected his musical skills in the class of world-famous Prof. Petko Radev, former principal clarinet at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. In 2002, having completed his first year at the Academy of Music in Skopje, he enrolled at the Ljubljana Academy of Music, where he graduated sum cum laude in 2006 in the class of Prof. Slavko Goričar. His desire to perfect his knowledge and pursue creativity took him to Salzburg. In 2008, he took and passed the entry exam for the postgraduate course in the highest, Meisterklasse, category at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, in the class of Prof. Alois Brandhofer, former principal clarinet at the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He completed his studies with distinction. During his studies, Goran became the principal clarinetist of the Bläserphilharmonie Mozarteum Salzburg.

As a soloist, he works with different musicians and institutions around the globe, including the Mozarteum. In Slovenia he was a member of the Terrafolk ensemble for a number of years. He also collaborated with the legendary Vlatko Stefanovski and jazz pianists Matija Dedić and Bojan Zulfikarpašić. He is the founder of the musical genre Balkan Nuevo, which is based on his Balkan roots and updated with the elements of classical and tango music. In 2011 he was invited to the elite Balkan Superselection group, which consists of renowned musicians Vlatko Stefanovski, Vasil Hadžimanov, Teodosi Spasov, and Marko Ramljak.  In 2017 he opened the European jazz conference in Ljubljana, togehter with Bojan Zulfikarpašić in the summer of 2018 he sold out all concerts at major festivals across Europe with his Balkan Nuevo style.

Bojčevski is also a distinguished composer, he writes music for orchestras, documentaries, in 2017 his balet Dervish and Death was nominated a best ballet in Croatia. He was invited composer two times at Mozarteum, he wrote two compositions for Bläserphilharmonie Salzburg.

He was awarded the bronze MOC coat-of-arms for outstanding creative achievements in 2018. According to critics, Bojčevski continuously ranks among the world’s best clarinetists.
